WebOS has found its new use - Controlling MRI equipment

Filled in the WebOS Category on 12/12/2011 at 02:21

Just a few days ago it was announced that WebOS would be going open source after it failed to take off in HP's hands. I was a great fan of WebOS but I honestly failed to see who would pick up the need for one of those TouchPads running WebOS.

Well now there is a use for them, and a very good one. Folks at Standford University realized that TouchPads have a very unusually advantage compared to most other conventional PCs, iPads and other tablets. That is, with a little work the TouchPad can be made to be totally nonmetallic. That means that when near the MRI scanners the TouchPad won't not only be affected by the strong magnetic field it also means it won't suddenly fly out of your hands towards the magnet.

Facebook timeline: Now available in New Zealand

Filled in the Social Networks Category on 08/12/2011 at 13:43

The new long awaited new Facebook feature, Timeline first announced in September has no become available to all users in New Zealand.

Facebook's own blog stated "We'll begin by making it available to people in New Zealand and then roll it out more broadly in the near future.". This is the first public release, and it seems to be an in-between of a Beta and Full version. There has a been a Beta available to developers for a while now, but it seem puzzling to many people why of all places New Zealand should get the first public roll out.

Carrier IQ: What is it and why the fuss

Filled in the Mobiles Category on 01/12/2011 at 21:26

Put simply, it follows in some sense's rather stalker-like what you and your smartphone get up to.

Its essentially an app which is installed by your carrier before purchase and can be installed on to Blackberries, iPhones (and presumably iPads) and Android devices. Once its on the phone it runs quietly in the background and you will probably never know that its there, as it just sends data such as location, apps in use, battery level and so forth back to the carrier you are with.

Web Highlight this week: I've done a parachute jump, and it was scary. This is crazy however.

Filled in the Web highlights this week Category on 01/12/2011 at 21:05

As if you couldn't make jumping out of a plane at 12,000 feet scarier this gentlemen decided that it was a extra thrill if your parachute wasn't actually attached to your body. With that in mind, I can understand why people want to push the boundaries so granted this is awesome but you won't be catching me doing this.

Introducing: CaPNotifier

Filled in the Software Category on 10/11/2011 at 01:15

That's right, our first Windows based software since having moved away from WebOS. As announced on our Twitter account a few days ago, this new Windows Utility Software is now available for download.

Simple but clever

We started work on this application after we found all that was out there at the moment was rather poor offering. So we set about making our own software which will give you a notification every time CAP, Num or Scroll Lock is either switched on or off.

Find out more and download options here, or alternatively start downloading straight away.
